Oildata's Tool Glossary

Tool Acronyms and Descriptions

DIT (Downward Impact Tool):
Designed to shoot a projectile or spear to unclog debris, burst up small bridge plugs, cut holes in tubing- stops or break ceramic disks in horizontal well completions.
ELINPAC (Electric Line deployed Thru-tubing Gravel Pack):
Repair of damaged gravel packed completions or gravel pack newly perforated zone.
GSJ (Golden Swing Jet):
Delivers the performance of a larger diameter  casing gun, without having to pull the tubing from the well.
IMP (Inflatable Mechanical Plug):
Designed to run on electric line through small diameter tubings or restrictions and set with the Electric Pump Setting Tool  (ESPT) in larger casing. The IMP can also be configured as a packer run on Coiled Tubing.
IMPACT (Integrated Motorized Perforating and Correlating Tool):
Provides precise rotational positioning for perforating guns or similar devices used for reentry operations which require perforating the short string section in a dual or multiple completion  well.
JTC(J-SERIES Tubing Cutter):
New tubing cutter technology that out performs Cutters from all the major manufacturers in all categories. Provides cleaner tubing cut with less flare.
Magna Range Setting Plug:
Designed to pass through restrictions and set in a larger tubing interval below.
MDNT (Memory Dual Neutron Tool):
Through-Tubing identification of Gas-Oil contacts and alternative correlation tool. The MDNT is deployed on Slickline or coiled tubing.
MFI (Multi-Finger Imaging Tool/Multi-Finger Tubing Imager):
Provides high resolution pictures of the condition of downhole tubing or casing.
MULE (Motorized Unitary Logging Equipment-tractor):
The downhole tractor (MULE) is designed to deploy tools and equipment along horizontal and highly deviated wells.
NEAT (Neutron Enhanced Array Tool):
Consists of an array of strategically positioned neutron detection devices which measure neutron flux density at thermal and epithermal energies. Used with the SCAN log to locate Water-Oil-Gas contacts.
PACE (Pulsed Acoustic Completions Evaluation Tool):
A 10-Receiver Acoustic logging tool designed to provide acoustic logging services including gravel pack monitoring, cement bond logging etc.
PDS (Petrophysical Data Services):
Log digitizing, Digital data services, Data conversion services, Log interpretation projects, Log data quality Audits and Field study data evaluation projects.
PLT/MPLT (Production Logging/Memory Production Logging Tool):
Simultaneous real time or memory measurement of the downhole multiphase flow contribution in a producing, injection or dump flood well.
PNL (Production Noise Log):
Detects down hole audio  frequency and amplitude variations due to fluid movement.
SCAN (Shear Compressive And  reconnaissance Tool):
Through-Tubing identification of Water-Gas-Oil contacts and cased hole porosity.
SHARP/ Slickline/CTU Perforating System:
Designed to safely perforate guns deployed on slickline/Coiled Tubing.
Spiral Shogun Perforating System:
Combines desired radial coverage (Phasing) and high shot densities of casing guns with deep penetrating and retrievable strips.
STC (Split-Shot Tubing Cutter):
Split-Shot tubing cutters fire a vertical linear charge that splits the collar releasing the pipe for easy removal, without a 'belling' effect. Cuts tubing at the collar cleanly without distorting the tube.
TTSP (Thru-Tubing Straddle Pack):
Using a thru-tubing vented plug or Inflatable plug to eliminate specific perforations which can not be abandoned due to remaining production below.
TTPB (Thru-Tubing Petal Basket Plug):
A cost effective, permanent but drillable  plug, installed through tubing restrictions and set in larger  casing.
X-Flow Thru-vent plug, vented Through-Tubing Umbrella Plug:
The Tru-Vent plug solves the cement contamination problem associated with other vented bridge plugs in plugback operations in casing without the benefit of pulling tubing.
