Inflatable Mechanical Plug (IMP)

Inflatable Mechanical Packer

Inflatable Mechanical Plug (IMP) systems are designed to run through small diameter tubular or restrictions and set in larger diameter casing. Once inflated, the thru-tubing IMP provides an excellent seal with the casing I.D. It is capable of withstanding high differential pressures encountered during subsequent operations. IMPs provide the operator with an alternative to the high costs of remedial operations.

The Inflatable Mechanical Plug element is composed of a central mandrel, inflation bladder, steel slats and a rubber cover. It is inflated by pumping fluid between the mandrel and the inflation bladder. The resilient rubber cover surrounds the steel slats and provides a positive seal with the casing I.D.

IMP systems can be deployed via electric-line. Coiled tubing and in some cases slickline. High Pressure Integrity, Inc. designs Oildata's Inflatable Mechanical Plugs.

In the deployment procedures of the IMP, it is deployed with the Electric Pump Setting Tool (EPST). The EPST is a versatile downhole electro-hydraulic pump capable of running and setting a variety of hydraulic actuated assemblies. The EPST is primarily used to run-in and set inflatable bridge plugs and packers. The tool incorporates a Casing Collar Locator for depth tie-in or can accommodate a gamma ray logging tool.
