IMPACT
The Integrated Motorized Perforating and Correlating Tool (IMPACT) orienting tool is used to provide precise rotational positioning for perforating guns or similar devices used for re-entry operations, which require perforating the short string section in a dual or multiple completion well.
The Impact orienting tool incorporates:
- A ruggedized stepping motor section
- A Collimated Gamma detector window tool
- Swivel and fixed centralizers
- A shoot-through perforating adapter
The perforating gun is attached to the bottom of the Impact tool and the assembly is deployed in the short string and correlated on depth. A radioactive pill is then deployed on the long string adjacent to the location of the Impact tool.
The Impact tool/perforating gun assembly is rotated, by applying negative voltage from surface, to locate the gamma ray peak from the pill as well as the relative tool position. The gun is then repositioned and shot in an opposite direction to the peak, by applying positive voltage.
Tubing catcher subs attached to some short string completions can be cut off with Oildata's downward shooting canon or J-SERIES cutter (100% cutting action with minimum tubing flare), before deploying the Impact orienting tool.
APPLICATIONS
Excellent for use in multiple completion perforating, where the perforating guns can be oriented away from the adjoining Tubular strings and shot safely without damage to the other string.
