Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Is there any need to run a GR/CCL log prior to Perforation?

Answer: The GR/CCL run serves the purpose of a drift run, thus giving the operator an idea of the nature of the casing, so that you don't encounter obstructions when you run in hole with a live gun. It is always better to correlate the CCL, during the gun run, to the GR/CCL log, so that any mistakes, such as off-depth perforations in  previous jobs, will not be inherited.

Question: Does the radioactive pill bar that is run in the long string, when perforating a short, have any associated risk if lost in hole?

Answer: The radioactive pill bar comprises only about 1/10th of the power of the open hole logging source - about 2 Cu, and it can easily be fished out of hole.

Question: Can the cement used in Through-tubing plugback hold differential pressure?

Answer: The cement consists of a unique mix, which is designed to bond well with the walls of the casing, thereby holding enough differential pressure.

Question: What is Differential Pressure?

Answer: Differential pressure is the difference between the pressure above the cement and the pressure below the cement.

Question: Apart from corrosion evaluation, can the MFI detect leaks and holes in tubings?

Answer: Oildata's Multi-Finger Imaging tool provides the Petroleum, Drilling and Corrosion Engineer, data for the following applications:

  • Casing Deformation
  • Casing Wear Measurement
  • Corrosion Assessment
  • Location of holes, cracks and splits
  • Perforation Mapping
  • Scale Evaluation

Question: What is the mode of operation of the MFI?

Answer: The Multi-Finger Imaging tool has an array of hard-surfaced fingers (24), which measure small  changes in tubing/casing diameter. The individual finger measurements can be transmitted real time to surface, or stored in a downhole electronic memory tool for subsequent analysis.

Question: Do you have TTPB plugs with two slips below the petal basket?

Answer: No, the petal basket plugs do not have two slips below the basket, they have only  one.

Question: For plugs with double basket, is the lower one inverted or not?

Answer: Yes, the lower basket in the X-flow double basket plug is inverted.

Question: If not inverted, does the  lower basket contain pre-packed ceramic beads?

Answer: No. However, the double basket plugs also do have ceramic shots loaded. The shots are loaded in a carrier tube on top of the double basket. There is only one set of slips on the top of this type of plug.
